St. John’s Rolls Over La Salle on Thanksgiving Day

Game Summary

What a game. The turkey is going to taste a little bit better this evening as the boys all came to play this afternoon and got their second win in the last 24 hours on Thanksgiving Day. Everyone played an important roll in this one as they easily rolled over La Salle at Carnesecca.

The game opened up with a Greg Williams Jr. three-pointer, assisted by Posh. Williams played a great game today in all facets and finished with 13 points and was a leader on the court. Posh got himself into foul trouble early in this one, and with Rasheem Dunn out, it forced Mike Anderson to sub in John McGriff. Within his first seconds of action, McGriff buried his first three-pointer, earning himself his first points as a Johnnie.

Vince Cole got after it offensively right away again today, making a big impact on that end of the floor. Cole would go on to finish with 19 points, an impressive outing to follow his 21-point performance last night. Josh Roberts got the start today for the Red Storm and made major contributions on the defensive side, finishing with a team high 4 steals and 2 blocks.

The story of the game came within the opening 10 minutes of the second half. St. John’s came out of the locker room super hot and never looked back. Posh was flying around the court defensively and reeking havoc along with the rest of the team to begin to break this one open. Posh grabbed three steals to go along with several tipped passes and strong defensive possessions. In the second half, Dylan Wusu really looked much more comfortable, even since just last night. Wusu tallied 10 points tonight in just his second career collegiate game to go along with six rebounds. Marcellus Earlington also had a big second half on both ends this afternoon to provide that spark off of the bench. He scored 14 points in this one including two big three-pointers.

So many players had a hand in the win for the Red Storm and they ought to be feeling very good about this one.

Play of the Game

This play perfectly demonstrates what won us this game. Hustle. The hustle shown by SJU and by the freshmen stud Posh Alexander, was ridiculously impressive this afternoon. Posh impacts the game in so many more ways than just his scoring and anyone who has seen him play in these opening two games can see that he is going to be a fan favorite for a very long time.

Player of the Game

Today’s SJU Barstool Player of the Game: Vince Cole

Vince Cole showed up big for St. John’s for the second time in as many days. Cole scored 19 points, as he was the go-to scoring option for most of the game. He only hit one three in this one but got to the hoop and capitalized on other types of shots, including going 6-6 from the free throw line. The player of the game today could have gone in many different directions, but Vince Cole’s play was too exceptional to not give him that title yet again.

Gambling Results

The boys beat the spread today (thank God) and made us loyal ATS fans some money. The -10 spread got interesting coming down the final stretch of play, but we prevailed and cashed in on our Thanksgiving Day bets.

Back in action against Boston College on Monday.

Oh and by the way, we are the best team in the Big East.
